Cancer in Oklahoma

It’s no secret that Cancer impacts people worldwide. In fact, according to cancer.gov, approximately 39.5% of people will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their life. By 2040, the number of new cancer cases per year is predicted to rise to 29.5 million. Overwhelming, right?

Cancer creeps up when you least expect it, and it impacts most all of us in one way or another. Unfortunately, not any one of us can prevent cancer’s impact on our own.

However, as a group, and by starting in our own community, we can make a difference.

Cancer in Oklahoma

According to cancer.org, in 2022, about 3,280 women were diagnosed with breast cancer. 570 women lost their battle with breast cancer in the same year. As breast cancer is one of the more common cancers for women, it’s important that you and/or your friends and family attend routine well-women exams as well as receive up-to-date mammographies. Oklahoma ranks 40 and 46 respectively in the country for percent of people who are up-to-date on either. We can do better!

Additionally, as of 2017, Oklahoma ranks 5th for the number of high schoolers who smoke. Oklahoma also ranks 11th for obesity prevalence in those 18 years and older. Educate your loved ones on the dangers of smoking and the importance of healthy living. Hold each other accountable! Even getting outside for a walk or limiting sugary foods in your home can help. By making little changes, you, your friends and your family are taking steps to make sure you all…

Don’t Become a Statistic.

The unfortunate reality is that cancer can strike at any time in even the healthiest body. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take care of yourself, but rather serves as a reminder that you should be aware and take preventative steps.
